It’s hard to beat Dublin Zoo for the ultimate fun day out! The fourth oldest zoo in the world, it’s home to over 400 animals, so naturally all tyupes of group travellers are welcome.
The zoo is spread out across an impressive 28 hectares. Almost half of this is taken up by the African Savanna - one of the zoo’s major highlights. Roaming through the grassy plains, you’ll almost forget you’re in a zoo as you watch giraffes, zebras and rhinos chilling out and enjoying life. Keep an eye out for the cheeky chimpanzees in the trees as they play and search for honey and other treats.
Another firm favourite is the Family Farm where you’ll get up close and personal with the zoo’s friendliest cows, sheep, pigs and goats (the baby goats are particularly adorable). But if you want to keep it strictly exotic, there’s no shortage of where you can go: hang out with gorillas at the New Gorilla Rainforest, head to the Asian Forests to see the cute little Asian lion cubs, or travel through the Kaziranga Forest Trail and visit the magnificent herd of Asian elephants.
All in all, it ‘s an excellent day out. Our advice would be to get there early and take your time to enjoy all the animals Dublin Zoo has to offer. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more at a price for €13.50 per adult and €8.75 per child, with free entry for the organiser. Oh and if you’ve time, pop in for a cuppa in the charming little tea rooms outside the zoo’s entrance. They’re a perfect spot for some homemade delights before or after you’ve met the local wildlife.
